1. A Night At The Roxbury (1998)

It may have taken the Butabi Brothers seven years to graduate high school, but by now they've realized there's more to life than working in their father's silk plant store. Their goal is to get into L.A.'s #1 night spot -- the elegant Roxbury Club -- and become movers and shakers in today's happening night club scene. Steve and Doug are determined to prove that for the first time in their lives, they are really worth something. They set out to prove their manhood by going through the ultimate rite of passage, getting into the A-club -- the Roxbury -- and maybe, someday, even running a club of their own. But they're not on the Roxbury's guest list, so Doug and Steve are stuck on the sidewalk -- as Doug complains, "A-club people leading a B-club life" -- until they roll into a fender bender with a club regular, litigation-phobic actor Richard Grieco, who escorts them right into the Roxbury! They make contact with the Roxbury's successful and influential owner, Mr. Za! dir, who agrees to a meeting to discuss their "bound-to-happen" concepts for new clubs. That same night at the Roxbury, Doug and Steve get picked-up by a pair of fortune-hunters, Cambi and Vivica, who mistake them for fat cats.

5. Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood (1996)

An antidote to the 1990s spate of urban coming-of-age films. The tale of a black youth sent to live with his father in the 'hood, this spoof parodies the key elements of such "serious" movies as "Boyz N the Hood," "Menace II Society" and "Juice."

7. Friday (1985)

Thoroughly charming and totally hilarious day-in-the-life comedy in which co-writer Ice Cube plays the stoic Craig opposite Chris Tuckers Smokey, a brilliantly rendered hyperactive marijuana enthusiast. The two twentysomethings, Craig recently wrongly fired and Smokey terminally slacking and scamming, barely make it through one highly eventful day. Eloquent commentary on themes like community, family, friendship, and violence is seamlessly blended with lighter treatments of young romance, bathroom emergencies, nosy neighbors and much more. Casually impeccable performances by the entire cast make this film a standout.

8. Funny Farm (1988)

George Roy Hill's FUNNY FARM stars Chevy Chase as Andy Farmer, a big-city sportswriter. Since he and his wife, Elizabeth (Madolyn Smith), are fed up with the tensions of urban life, they decide to buy a house in the country where each of them will be able to work on their book projects in peace. Shortly after they've moved to a spacious farmhouse in a small New England village, Andy begins to realize that his dreams of bucolic nirvana are, in fact, delusions. First the birds sing too loudly, preventing him from concentrating on his work. Then he learns that there's a corpse buried in their garden, not to mention snakes in their lake. They have to make calls from the pay phone located in their kitchen, and the grasping townspeople seem to have their meters running 24/7. To make matters worse for Andy, who can't get started on his book, his wife has sold her children's book, with a squirrel protagonist named Andy, not long after moving into the new house. Hill has toned down Chase's broader mannerisms, adopting the tone of MR. BLANDINGS BUILDS HIS DREAM HOUSE. The film is based on Jay Cronley's novel.

10. Meet The Parents (2000)

MEET THE PARENTS stars Ben Stiller as the unfortunately named Greg Focker, a neurotic nurse intent on marrying his girlfriend, Pam (Teri Polo). But when the couple visits Pams family home for her sisters wedding, he must first win the approval of her father, Jack (Robert De Niro), a protective ex-CIA agent. Before long, the awkward Greg and the suspicious Jack go head-to-head, resulting in hilarious scenes that feature a lie detector test, a suburban car chase, a toilet-trained cat, and a mean game of water volleyball. As the misunderstandings and mistakes reach an almost nightmarish peak, it seems as though Greg may never win over Pams unflinching guardian.

Antics at the party lead to the formation of a makeshift fraternity where age and academics dont matter, and Mitch is the reluctant "godfather." But when the universitys scheming dean (Jeremy Piven) catches wind of the new fraternity, he becomes determined to stop their fun. Will the boys overcome the deans sinister plans? Will Mitch find love again? Will Frank please stop running around naked? And, hey, isnt that the cute girl who plays Jack Bauers daughter on the TV series 24? These questions--and many more--are answered in the giddily fun and unabashedly immature OLD SCHOOL.

18. SLC Punk! (1999)

For Stevo, living in Reagan-era Salt Lake City, rebellion is an imperative. A recent grad, his world centers on anarchy, refusing the system, and the music of The Ramones, Dead Kennedys and The Specials. His ex-hippie father sees this lifestyle as an important rite of passage, yet urges Stevo to attend Harvard Law School, as he did. Not to sell out to the system, but to buy in. For Stevo, underneath the mohawk, earrings and leather, the idea, painfully, has some merit. The question becomes, how do you stay hard-core and still hope for a life beyond?

They become best friends, and then their parents decide to kick them out, because they are getting a divorce. They set up job interviews, but to no avail. Their lives are about to change, and they must grow up.

20. Strange Brew (1983)

Comedy
SCTV's Bob and Doug Mackenzie (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas) star as two wacky beer guzzling "hosers" who set out on a zany plot to score a free case of brew. They meet the beautiful Pam (Lynne Griffin) and decide to help save her recently acquired brewery from the diabolical Brewmeister Smith (Max von Sydow--THE EXORCIST) The comedy kicks into full gear as the pair try and overpower Brewmeister Smith in a story that is actually a nutty re-working of Shakespeare's HAMLET.

22. The Burbs (1989)

Set in an average neighbourhood that is anything but average, Tom Hanks portrays suburbanite Ray Peterson, who finally takes a much-needed week of vacation. However, Ray doesnt use the time to jet off to some exotic locale, there are no frolicsome adventures in his plans, all he wants is a week of mindless relaxation in his own comfortable suburban home. His wife Carol (Carrie Fisher) warns him that hes liable to go crazy from the boredom, but he refuses to listen. The nothingness finally does get to him, however, and he creates a little excitement for himself by spying on his neighbours - the Klopeks, a mysterious, oddball family that just moved in to a dilapidated home down the street. When the neighbourhood grouch mysteriously disappears, Ray and a motley crew of other local crackpots begin to concoct wild theories about the strange, and perhaps murderous, goings on in the Klopeks creepy, old house. For one brief, shining moment their lives seem to have some meaning and purpose as Ray and his friends become consumed with the secrets of the bizarre family. Tom Hanks is hysterical as Ray, bringing his own brand of boyish charm and zany slapstick comedy to the screen.

23. The Money Pit (1986)

An updating of "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dreamhouse" in which an up-and-coming entertainment lawyer takes the big step with his girlfriend and purchases a fixer-upper for a "steal." As it turns out, the steal is really a rip-off and everything that can go wrong, does. Some think this is one of Tom Hanks' finest comic performances. He demonstrates his knack for physical comedy when he, for example, tries to climb a flight of stairs that literally crumbles beneath his feet. Anyone who has ever had a big dream and had to fight for it will appreciate the way this film is structured and the pay-off in the end.
